The lustre surface has a fine, subtle texture embedded in the paper itself. That texture does two things: it softens specular reflections so the print looks good under a variety of lighting conditions, and it makes the surface slightly resistant to fingerprints. The result is a print you can actually handle, frame, and display without it looking like a crime scene every time someone touches it.
What Makes Lustre the Right Choice for Most Photos

Most consumer photo labs — the big online services and the kiosk at the drug store — use dye-based inks on commodity paper. Dye inks are cheaper to run and faster to dry, but they fade measurably faster over time. The difference is most visible after five to ten years of display. We use pigment inks because the prints are meant to last.

We get this question occasionally. The short answer is that glossy photo prints look great in a plastic sleeve or a direct light source and significantly worse in most real-world display situations. Fingerprints are immediately visible. Framing adds another layer of reflective glare. The surface scratches easily. Lustre gives you essentially the same color vibrancy without those drawbacks — which is why professional photo labs have largely moved away from glossy as a standard finish. If you specifically remember glossy prints from a consumer lab and liked them, lustre will not disappoint you.
Metallic Pearl — For Images That Demand Attention
Pearl is a fundamentally different paper. It has a high-gloss finish with metallic flake embedded in the paper itself — which means colors do not just appear bright, they appear luminous.
